Important Information about NPR

The Modi government at the Center is now preparing to update the National Population Register after the Citizenship Amendment Act, for this important meetings are being organized in the Cabinet from time to time. In view of this, it is being estimated that the Central Government may take a decision on updating the 2021 Census and National Population Register. Census of the year 2021 can start from 1 April 2020.

NPR i.e. National Population Register is part of the census, and it is updated before the census. For the first time the NPR register was prepared in the year 2010 and now it is being updated again after 10 years. The central government has to collect complete census data by the year 2021, due to which NPR can be discussed in the cabinet meeting. After discussion in the cabinet meeting, it will be decided whether the work on NPR will start from April next year or not.

What is the full form of NPR?

In the year 2004, Section 14A of the Citizenship Act 1955 was amended. According to this, it is mandatory for every citizen of the country to get registered in the National Register (NRIC). National Register of Indian Citizens (NRIC) is a national data. Creation of National Population Register (NPR) is the first step towards preparation of NRIC. NPR will be used to verify citizenship. Therefore, it is mandatory for all ordinary citizens to register under NPR. The full form of NPR is National Population Register (NPR) and the full form in Hindi is National Population Register.

Proposal to add new information to NPR

The government is preparing to update the National Population Register. The government has to collect complete census data by 2021, due to which cabinet meetings are being organized from time to time on the National Population Register. Need of National Population Register

There is a difference between NPR and NRC. Under NRC, illegal citizens are to be identified in the country, whereas under NPR, it is mandatory for any resident living in the local area for six months or more to register in NPR. If any outsider has been living in any part of the country for six months, he also has to be registered in the NPR. The aim is to provide the benefits of government schemes to the real beneficiaries by preparing biometric data of people through NPR.
