So that India can compete with other countries and spread the network of facilities all over India so that India can touch the pinnacle of developed nation through that technology. What is ISRO?

ISRO was established on 15 August 1969 by Vikram Sarabhai. ISRO is an organization under the Space Department of the Government of India , which conducts space related research and manufactures satellites and technology. The Government of India uses this technology for development work and security of India. So that India can be provided internal and external security. ISRO is solely responsible for India’s space programs. This organization has many centers all over India, through which research and technology is developed. Due to the successful efforts of ISRO, India has become the sixth country in the world, which can itself manufacture satellites and other equipment and place them in space orbit. At present, India is earning income by placing satellites and equipment of many countries in space orbit.

Full Form of ISRO

The full form of ISRO is Indian Space Research Organization. In Hindi language it is known as ‘Indian Space Research Organization’ .

ISRO Headquarters

The headquarters of ISRO is established in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka state.

How many centers does ISRO have?

ISRO has six major centers and many other units, agencies, facilities and laboratories established across the country. These centers are – Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) Thiruvananthapuram, ISRO Satellite Center (ISAC) Bangalore, Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC-SHAR) Sriharikota, Liquid Propulsion System Center (LPSC) Thiruvananthapuram, Space Application Center at Bangalore and Mahendragiri. (SAC), Ahmedabad and National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC), Hyderabad.

What are the main functions of these centres ?

  • Launch vehicles are manufactured at VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram.
  • Satellites are designed and developed at ISSAAC, Bangalore.
  • Integration and launch of satellites and launch vehicles is carried out at SDSC, Sriharikota. Liquid phases including cryogenic phase are developed in LPSC.
  • SAC, Ahmedabad carries out work related to the use of sensors and space technology for communication and remote sensing satellites.
  • Remote sensing data acquisition, processing and distribution is done by NRSC, Hyderabad.

Note: A launch vehicle is a huge rocket that carries satellites, robotic spacecraft and human spacecraft into space.

Chandrayaan 2

Recently, due to the efforts of ISRO, India successfully launched Chandrayaan-2 on 22 July 2019 from Sriharikota at 02:43 pm Indian time. After this successful launch, India has emerged as a space power in front of the world, the full credit for this goes to ISRO and its scientists. In this way it is said that ISRO is playing a major role in taking India forward in the path of development.
