Information about NMC Bill 2019

Commission
Till now India, medical education, medical institutions and registration of doctors were done by the Medical Council of India. According to the new bill, in place of this institution, the National Medical Commission will look after all its functions and the Medical Council of India will be abolished. The National Medical Commission will have 25 members. It will have a Chairman, a Secretary, eight ex-officio members and 10 part-time members. National Medical Commission will also provide recognition to medical institutions.

The following provisions have been made in the NMC Bill 2019:
Chairman and Members Selection
In the National Medical Commission Bill, the Chairman of the National Medical Commission will be appointed by the Central Government. Other members will be appointed through a search committee. The Chairman of the Search Committee will be the Cabinet Secretary. Before this, members were selected through election process.

Formation of Medical Advisory Council
Through this bill, the Government of India will constitute a Medical Advisory Council, which will record the problems arising in the state medical education and training. After this, this council will inform the National Medical Commission about these problems and will also give its suggestions.

Institute Fees
Through this bill, the fees for 40 percent of the total seats in all private medical institutions across the country will be fixed by the government.
Bridge Course
A provision for a bridge course has been made in Section 49 of the NMC Bill 2019, after completing this bridge course, doctors of Ayurveda and Homeopathy will also be considered eligible to provide allopathy treatment.

Services of Medical Council of India employees terminated
According to Section 58 of the NMC Bill 2019, the services of the Medical Council of India along with its officers and employees will be terminated. In lieu of this, three months salary and allowances will be provided to the officers and employees.
One Entrance Exam
According to this bill, only one examination will be organized for taking admission in all the medical colleges of the country. It will be called National Eligibility cum Entrance Test.

National Exit Test ( NEXT)
According to NMC Bill 2019, after passing the MBBS examination, students will have to appear for National Exit Test (NEXT) to practice. They will be granted license only after passing the National Exit Test.
