The boundary of any country is determined by combining the mountainous and plain areas. In a country where there are more plains, there are more arrangements for living and farming and accordingly that country develops by using natural resources. If the country has more mountainous areas, then the risk of floods is higher in that country. Rivers make their way from the mountainous part to the plain part. During the rainy season, the amount of water in the rivers increases, due to which the problem of floods arises. (What is Flood)?

During the rainy season, when there is heavy rainfall, the amount of water in the rivers increases, due to which this water fills all the nearby residential places and the entire place gets submerged. Water comes into people’s houses, due to which people have to live at higher places, due to this they have to face the problem of food, drink and shelter. Due to stagnation of water in houses for a long time, houses start collapsing. Weak houses collapse within a day. In this way, it can be said that the state of residential places being submerged in water for a few days is called flood.

What is flood control?

Flood control means controlling the area of water through human measures. The main measures to control it are as follows-

For flood control, appropriate land and water conservation measures should be taken in the river submerged area so that the runoff of that area does not go uncontrolled.
In places where there is problem of flood every year, high dams or banks should be raised on the banks of the river so that the water cannot spread far.
The drainage capacity of rivers and drains should be increased by deepening them in the middle.
To straighten the meandering rivers.
To reduce the intensity of runoff by creating structures like reservoirs etc. in the upper reaches of rivers.

flood relief and rescue operations

In the flood affected areas, relief and rescue work is done by the NDRF team, they rescue the people trapped in the flood from the flood affected areas and take them to a safe place.
The government creates safe camps at safe places with the help of Army and NDRF team.
In these camps, the government tries to make proper arrangements for food, drink and accommodation, but fails every time in making proper arrangements in reality, due to which people have to face many problems.
During floods, the NDRF team conducts surveys through boats and aircraft, their main objective is to safely rescue people trapped in flood affected areas.
There is more problem in making security arrangements in flood affected areas when the flow of water is more fast. There is a greater problem of loss of life while carrying out relief and rescue operations at night.
