- Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has been constituted under the Consumer Protection Bill 2019. This authority will protect consumer rights and take action on complaints of unethical business activities.
- Under this Act, it has been made mandatory for all companies or sellers to take back the product within 30 days.
- The authority will hold the company’s manufacturers or service providers accountable to each customer. The affected consumer will benefit from this.
- If a consumer gets injured or dies or suffers any loss due to the manufacturing, design, formula, assembling, testing, service, instruction, marketing, packaging, labeling of the product, then the manufacturer, producer and seller will be held responsible.
- Under the Consumer Protection Bill 2019, if the District and State Consumer Forum gives a decision in the interest of the customer, then the company cannot appeal against it in the National Forum.
- In this bill, the consumer has also been given the right to lodge a complaint online . After this the consumer can attend the hearing through video conferencing.
- In the Consumer Protection Bill 2019, a provision was made to impose a punishment of six months to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 50 lakh on the manufacturer in cases of serious negligence.
